Although I pretty much only make Tonkatsu Sauce to go with Tonkatsu Pork I suspect it would work well wherever you use Barbecue Sauce. Much like my regular Barbecue Sauce this starts with a ketchup base, to which a host of flavours are added.

Though unlike my other recipe this doesn’t need to be cooked and can be served pretty much straight away if you’re in a rush. I’d recommend chilling it for a few hours to let the flavours develop, but sometimes needs must, eh?

Tonkatsu Sauce

Also referred to as “Japanese Barbecue Sauce” this sweet/sour/savoury sauce is usually served with deep fried breaded pork (tonkatsu) but goes well with so many other dishes.
Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: Sauces, Side Dishes

  • 6 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
  • 3 tbsp Pomegranate Molasses
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • tsp Dijon Mustard
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder

  • Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl, then cover and chill for a few hours to allow the flavours to develop. Remove from the fridge a bit before serving and allow it to come up to room temperature.
